Karel Millenaar, MA

With over 15 years of experience, Karel Millenaar is deeply committed to advancing game design in the Netherlands. As a collaborative partner, Karel bridges connections that drive projects forward.

His expertise in game design, storytelling, illustration, and education has shaped experiences across various sectors. Whether as a researcher and lecturer at esteemed institutions like Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and the University of the Arts, Utrecht, or leading innovation as the President of Play at FourceLabs, Karel’s mission is clear: to foster creativity through genuine collaboration.

Notably, Karel recently contributed to Unexplored 2 as a game and narrative designer, showcasing his dedication to pushing the boundaries of immersive gaming experiences.

Currently he’s interested in how mega games can be used within educational contexts, how game design can contribute in making games with and for local communities to mitigate the impact of affective polarization and how to make a new computer role playing game that captures the tabletop experience.
